Downtown Seminole, Oklahoma is the next stop for students in the IQC Community Workshop course, under the guidance of Professor Ron Frantz and Associate Director Hope Mander.
A team of eight students is working on the project. The students represent four divisions of the College of Architecture: architecture, construction science, landscape architecture, and city planning. The project includes conducting a historic district assessment of downtown Seminole for consideration by the National Register for Historic Places. The assessment could lead to opening up more funding opportunities for renovations and redevelopment of downtown Seminole.
Last weekend, students traveled to Seminole to tour five historic properties and prepare to conduct a full inventory of historical assets in Seminole. Seminole Main Street Director Kiley Peters hosted the tour.
The IQC Community Workshop course is offered each spring as a chance for students to get hands-on experience working in Oklahoma communities alongside professionals in economic development, architecture, construction, and city planning. Last year students conducted a pedestrian and public life analysis of Norman and a reconstruction plan for the Alvis Hotel in Pauls Valley.
