Talihina: Lake Carl Albert

The Institute works with the town of Talihina to capitalize on the tourism potential of Lake Carl Albert.

Talihina, OK | Fall 2023

The Institute for Quality Communities team at The University of Oklahoma works with communities across the state to facilitate community engagement projects and provide design recommendations. The team of interdisciplinary students gather community input, analyze existing conditions, and develop conceptual planning and design solutions to help Oklahoma communities reshape their towns to improve health, economy, and quality of life. The IQC began working with the city of Talihina after receiving a proposal from the Town of Talihina over the Summer of 2023. The project proposal focused on five acres of the land surrounding Lake Carl Albert and the spillway. This beautiful natural resource is nearly untouched, and the city expressed interest in developing the space as a premier recreational area.

The IQC team visited Talihina in October 2023 to conduct a site visit and host community workshops. Using information learned during this visit, design recommendations for the area surrounding Lake Carl Albert are outlined in this document.
