Union City

Comprehensive Planning Framework

Union City, Oklahoma | Fall 2023

Union City faces significant opportunities and challenges due to anticipated population growth, necessitating thorough and forward-thinking planning. The limitations identified in the 2004 planning effort highlight the need for a more updated approach that addresses both social and physical aspects of the community. The Institute for Quality Communities (IQC) has developed recommendations that align with Union City’s goals for sustainable growth and improved quality of life for its residents. These recommendations are detailed in the Comprehensive framework chapters with Precedents, providing a roadmap for a robust and community-centered planning effort. The Union City Land Use Map, created through collaborative efforts, strategically allocates resources to integrate residential, commercial, and recreational spaces. As Union City undergoes revitalization, it is essential to view the Comprehensive Plan as a dynamic and adaptable guide, shaped by ongoing community engagement. The collaborative efforts of stakeholders, residents, and the IQC team have produced a plan that addresses the challenges posed by population growth and positions Union City as a model for sustainable urban development.
